Nollywood actress Oluchi Nwabuzor has been in the movie industry for a while now. She has featured in scores of movies and is known for her great delivery.
The multitalented actress is also a model and event host. She spoke to Chinedu Hardy Nwadike of OtownGist Media about the recent happenings in her life and career.
Excerpts:
How has the movie industry been treating you so far?
So far so good, it’s been treating me well, though it’s been very challenging but it’s been good.
I understand that nothing good comes easy, so I keep my head up and keep pushing because I know where I am heading to.
On the bright side, there have been endorsements, great movie roles and opportunities to be a better person in the industry. The summary is that it has been good and fine.
How much would you say you have developed since you joined the industry?
Looking at when I started, to the point I am now, I would say I have developed tremendously In my craft, built experience over time and I am definitely better than when I started.
I have learnt things on my own and I have also met people along the line who taught me things knowing and unknowingly. I just keep learning everyday because every set offers fresh challenges that will turn to new experiences after.
You came in as a model, how was the transition and what is the greatest lesson you have learnt so far?
The transition was smooth, though I am still very much a model, not left yet. The lessons I have learnt so far on this journey is determination, whatever you set your mind to do just keep doing it.
You previously said you want to be an icon in the movie industry, how close are you to that dream?
Well, I am still working on that, it’s a gradual process and I know and I am confident that I am close to achieving that.
One of the greatest good you can do to yourself is to always understand that you are not where you used to be. Count your tiny victories and always know that as long as you keep growing, you will get there.
I always have this in mind, I might not be a finished book, but the author has begun the story.
Most famous actors are producers as well, when do we expect some productions from you and what will they be like?
I have produced a couple of movies, and I would do more productions sometime in future.
I want to be known for special movies and there are still things and knowledge I need to be able to achieve that. I am on that path already, soon my name and work will ring everywhere.
There's always a stereotype of females in the industry. Most people believe their success is dependent on sleeping with men. How true is that?
Well I would love to correct this notion, Your success can never be dependent on sleeping with men, because success is not sexually transmitted.
Your success is dependent on your skills, how hard you work and above all the God factor.
This also goes beyond actresses and it is sad that most people go on to believe that women cannot succeed without sleeping with a man. This is a big lie because there are women who are working hard daily to be the best in what they do and they deserve some accolades and respect.
What's that one thing you'd love to change in the industry if you have the power?
One thing I would love to change in the industry is the issue of funding, I would love the government and private sector funders to be more involved in assisting filmmakers.
Another thing I would love to change is the issue of piracy and legal rights. Quality control is another thing that needs to be improved, it is missing in some of the movies being churned out
Speaking on things you like, how many intelligent men have you attracted since you went public with that statement?
Laughs, I would skip this question
Which actors and directors did you enjoy working with and why?
For actors I have worked with a couple of actors and I enjoyed working with all of them I won’t pick any favorite because they are all unique in their own way, and that goes to all the directors too, with there different style of direction
What kind of movies are we to expect from you in the future?
Hollywood movies. International collaboration
