The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three people suspected of stealing a car and a motorcycle in the Mowe and Ifo areas of the state.
A source in the command disclosed this in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Online on Thursday.
The source told our correspondent that a suspect identified as Matthew Segun smashed the head of a motorcyclist with a hammer on Tuesday before fleeing with his motorcycle.
Segun, it was gathered, had earlier stopped the motorcycle and begged to take him from the Old Bank Bus Stop to Igbese in Ifo.
Our correspondent further learnt that the motorcyclist told Segun to disembark when they reached Gbese, but he (Segun) insisted that he should take him further down the route.
The source told PUNCH Online that the motorcyclist lost consciousness and fell off the bike after Segun had hit him with a hammer on the crown of his head before absconding with the motorcycle.
PUNCH Online learned that after he regained consciousness, the motorcyclist and the owner of the bike approached the Ifo Police Division to report the incident.
Confirming the incident to PUNCH Online on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said other commercial motorcycle riders in the area assisted the police team in apprehending Segun.
She said, “The suspect is a member of a syndicate responsible for snatching motorcycles from commercial motorcyclists in the area. The suspect will soon be transferred after the preliminary investigation is completed.”
Similarly, two suspects believed to have stolen a car along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been arrested.
The suspects were said to have been acting suspiciously along the road and immediately fled when they saw the police approaching the area.
After arresting two of the suspects, the police said they had begun a manhunt to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Speaking on this incident, Odutola said the suspects had boarded the Corolla car in Lagos and that they sprayed some chemical substances on the face of the driver, which made him lose consciousness.
Following this, she explained that the suspects dragged the driver out of the car and immediately bolted the scene.
“We have arrested two of the suspects. Our men are on the trail of the other suspects who participated in the robbery. The suspects will be transferred to Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.” Odutola stated this in an exclusive chat with PUNCH Online.
