10th Assembly: Northern Christians congratulate Akpabio, Abbas
The Northern Christian Youth Professionals has welcomed the election of former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, and Jibrin Barau, as Senate President and Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly, respectively, saying it is a vote for inclusivity and unity of Nigeria.

Akpabio, who was declared the winner by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal, garnered 63 votes to defeat the former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, who could only amass 46 votes.

The Arewa group also hailed the victories of popular Kaduna politician, Tajudeen Abass, and South East legislator, Benjamin Kalu, as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the lower chamber, respectively.

In a statement issued in Abuja after the election, the Chairman of Northern Christian Youth Professionals, Isaac Abrak, disclosed that the outcome of the NASS polls marked significant milestones in the nation’s collective journey towards inclusiveness, unity, and progress.

“Senate President Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen have assumed pivotal roles as part of the legislative arm of government. The NCYP urges them to work collaboratively with the executive arm led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improve the living conditions of all Nigerians. Specifically, we emphasise the importance of sustaining and winning the war against the oil subsidy cabal, ensuring that our resources are efficiently managed for the benefit of every citizen.

“We congratulate Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senator Barau Jibrin, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, and Honourable Benjamin Kalu once again on their appointments. We believe that their leadership, in tandem with the collective dedication of the Senate and the House, will pave the way for inclusiveness, unity, and progress in Nigeria.”
